Amateur astronomy in NamibiaWelcome to the 2009 Year of Astronomy!
Namibia, especially the Khomas Hochland/Gamsberg area west of Windhoek, has the third clearest, least light-polluted sky in the world
Come and celebrate the Year of Astronomy - the 400th anniversay of the invention of the telescope - at the White lodge, Brandberg, on June 19th to 21st.
There is an impressive 'farm' of telescopes and other equipment at the guest farm Hakos, maintained by the German based International Amateur Observatory
A 75cm telescope is being erected on the old Max Planck site on top of the 2400m Gamsberg mountain itself
Another lodge with excellent facilities, including a unique elevated dome, is the Rooisand observatory, down the Gamsberg pass
